I’ve always been envious of the prolific manner in which I wrote during my days as the Golf Course Superintendent at Northland Country Club. I’ve never come close to matching that cadence during my ten years at Hazeltine and I don’t know that I ever will. Much of what I wrote in those early days was written before children, or in the quiet hours after they had gone to bed. Life is different now; my wife and I have three children and I’ve been doing this job for 16 years. When those quiet hours come, I prefer going to bed over most other activities. Still, I would like to write more than I have over the past 10 years, sharing what I’ve learned, how I think about the job, turf and a host of other things. Back then, I was a young superintendent hoping to learn from those with more experience than myself. Now, I’m the not quite grizzled veteran, the likes of whose counsel I once sought. I have a list of topics I’d like to share, one I expect will grow with time. Topics such as: how I think about irrigation, how I use a wetting agent, and how I use nitrogen. Hopefully I can provide the kind of knowledge and inspiration my younger self once sought.
Substack seems to be what Blogger was back then, which is why I have chosen it as my avenue for this new blogging adventure. I believe this medium is most powerful when you subscribe to my posts and get them as an email. You can do so by hitting the button below.
