Random photo #8-Dragging Hose
In the golf course management business, dragging hose has become a euphemism for busting ass during the summer months. To some people, it might mean 80 work weeks, consecutive weeks without a day off, and getting the boss’s boot up your ass because the water in your hose was warm when you got to the next green. (Seriously, I’ve heard that one before.)
At Hazeltine, we literally drag hose to make our jobs easier in the heat of the summer. I recall one day, maybe my first season, assistant superintendent Ryan Moy pulled up dragging his hose behind his cart. “Check this out!” Ryan often came up with these kinds of innovations. A $20, or less Husky hose hanger from Home Depot is all you need. You can see in the photos how we wrap the hanger around the hose, hook it to the hitch, then toss the ends in the back of a cart.
I once had a member ask if it wore the hoses out faster than normal. It probably does, but not by any noticeable amount, especially if you avoid driving down cart paths; our hoses still last for years. Seems a decent trade off when one factors the number of hours saved by not rolling up the hose after every green.
Dragging hose can make dragging hose a little easier, and if you’re working for that guy who checks the temp of your water, it might keep his boot out of your backside.
IMO anyone checking water temps in hose needs to get busy working & helping out instead of worrying about something like that. More help attacking hot spots better use of time.
