Random photo #6-Team
This week’s random photo takes us back to the 2019 Women's PGA Championship; Sunday in fact. This was my second major event as Hazeltine’s superintendent, but for many of our team, it was nearing double digits. If you’ve not experienced a major golf event, there is nothing like it. The camaraderie and teamwork exhibited leading up to and during the week of an event is extraordinary and inspiring. Putting on a professional golf event takes an amazing team and ours at Hazeltine is the best!
June 23rd was the type of day we often get that time of year. Not really warm, but not really cool. Clouds persisted all day, but without the threat of rain. As you can see in the photos, shorts and shirt-sleeve wearers were split evenly with those donning long pants and hoodies. There was a potential of significant rain Saturday night into Sunday morning, so we had moved our fairway mowing to Saturday night, just in case. The rain never came and champion Hannah Green and her fellow LPGA professionals enjoyed a wonderful rain-free week at Hazeltine.
On Sunday morning, before starting our tasks, we all met at the scoreboard, for the obligatory team photo. These photos always turn out to be a wonderful time capsule and show the number of people it takes to make such an event happen.
This event came just two and a half years after a very successful Ryder Cup. Still, the energy our team put forth for this PGA was every bit as high as in 2016. An added advantage was with small galleries, the turf team was able to score some prime seating on the par 3 17th.
